Dera opened around 5 years ago and ever since their business is booming. Although the restaurant caters to a larger number of guests in the evening, the indoor dining room is usually full even at lunch time. For desi food connoisseurs, this is the place to visit.

What makes this restaurant different from others is the way in which they prepare the food. Unlike other restaurants, Dera does not believe in overloading the dishes with unnecessary spices. The food is fresh and hygienically cooked, while the quality of meat in the mutton dishes is top class which makes them extremely delectable.

Their specialty is “sajji” and you can try it in chicken as well as mutton. Dera is definitely a meat lover’s dream come true, from mutton chops to chicken mughlai, you name it and they will serve it, cooked to perfection. To give variety to your taste buds, you can also try “mash ki daal” as it complements the meal.

It is situated at Tauheed Commercial Street 5, DHA Karachi.The atmosphere at Purple Haze can be described as nothing short of classy. Dim purple lights, comfortable cushioned cubicles within a maze lit up in purple, a bar that rests on bronze sculptures. All this makes the place look very hip and happening.

Once i was seated within the chic maze, placing an order became quiet a confusing task due to the eclectic menu of the cafe. With the help from the waiters, i finally decided to order the “white house” which comprised of batter fried potatoes stuffed with spicy chicken, mushroom and Mexican spicy herbs, topped with rich cheesy sauce.

For the main course, i tried the “lobster thermidor” which is sautéed in mushrooms, cooked in seafood sauce, topped with melted cheese, sprinkled with paprika and served with fried rice. The meat is so tender that it just melts in your mouth.
At purple haze you can sway to the music, puff away on sheesha or simply enjoy the great ambience and immaculate service. So if you are on the look out for an exceptional dining experience, purple haze is definitely the place to hang out with your family and friends.

Khiva lies in the center of Margalla hills. This restaurant offers a variety of rare central Asian cuisine. This house turned restaurant doesn’t catch the eye from outside but it’s the inside that’s truly captivating. Waiters are wearing traditional Uzbek robes. The walls of restaurant are covered with a collection of exotic carpets from various central Asian countries such as Iran, Afghanistan and the prisons of Pakistan. The carpet collection, along with other various collectables, is for sale and could be ordered through Khiva.

The rear lawn is a convenient little space that housed an ample number of diners. Popular with foreigners, the tables were flanked with small flags of different countries.

The true central Asian flavor is a won ton soup with veggies and floating minced meat dumplings. Another soup, the Suik Osh, is with pasta, veggies and meat chunks. Another favorite dish is Mayizli Palov, browned rice with raisins and a choice of meat shank with yogurt and tomato paste with brinjal. You can also enjoy Sheesha there.
